Race Rules - Cycle

  1. Each competitor is responsible for having his/her bike in proper working condition.
  2. All cyclists are responsible at all times for their own bicycles.
  3. Cyclists are expected to heed directions and instructions of race officials.
  4. No music players (ie. iPods, etc.) are permitted whilst cycling.
  5. ALWAYS cycle on the left if a faster competitor approaches. Take care making corners at high speed.
  6. HELMETS are required during the bike race. Your helmet must be on your head with chin strap fastened securely any time you are on your bike. If it is not, this is grounds for disqualification.
  7. RELAYS: Cyclists must return to the designated relay team area to tag off with the runner.
  8. No individual support vehicles or assistance by anyone is allowed.
  9. When overtaking fellow cyclists, do not simply pass them and then cut across and ride in-front of them. Respect your fellow riders, acknowledge your presence and leave sufficient space so that they do not have to slow down when you pull into the left again.
  10. Do not ride beside another rider or ride on the right hand side of the lane, as you will be blocking other faster riders coming through. If you are caught, you will be awarded a 30 second penalty for blocking. Always stay on the left hand side unless you are overtaking.
