You don’t have to be made of steel or iron to compete in the Belderrig Bronze Man annual race this August Bank Holiday weekend ‘Bronze-man’ will do just fine if you are up for lots of fun and an exhilarating personal challenge with a spectacular coastal backdrop.

The Belderrig Bronze Man Race, which comprises a swim, cycle and walk/run takes place on Saturday July 31st in the picturesque village of Belderrig in North Mayo.  Commencing at 12 noon the Bronze Man Race is open to everyone male or female, who is up for a challenge and lots of fun.

The Bronze Man Race begins with a 100 metre swim across Belderrig Bay to the local Belderrig pier. The competitors then head off on a 4km cycle around the village of Belderrig with the participants finishing the final leg of the race on foot with another 4km on the roads around Belderrig.

Event organiser Tony Murphy said “The Bronze Man Race was a huge success last year and we are delighted to host it again this year.  Belderrig Bay and environs provide the perfect setting for the event with incredible scenery on view for the entire challenge.  We were thrilled with the support we got last year from the local community and we know that goodwill will be on hand again this year.”

The winners of both the male and female race will be presented with perpetual trophies with the overall winner being presented with the Belderrig Bronze Man Sword.  Competitors will be treated to refreshments along the route with the prize giving ceremony taking place in the beautiful Belderrig Bay Hotel.
